About Veronique

Veronique Harris is a ceramic artist who enjoys exploring, discovering and creating using clay. She finds inspiration in her observations of and experiences with people, animals and nature. She is intrigued by the narrative of everyday life and how we each respond in individually unique ways, and express our experiences through varied art forms. For Veronique, clay is an ideal canvas for conveying the stories of these experiences. Using clay and other media Veronique loves to create unique, beautiful and one-of-a-kind sculptures and functional wares.

Artist Statement

The primary focus of my work is the expression and celebration of our common connections. Through clay I am empowered to safely push the boundaries of self discovery. Explorations into our human nature inform the stories I share through forms of functional and sculptural works. These works represent the unique social and spiritual connections we all share and articulate the eternal nature of our beings.

Process

All of Veronique’s work is created and fired in her studio where she uses various techniques including throwing on a potter’s wheel, hand building and sculpting. Veronique often combines techniques to form interesting shapes and figures that represent the curves and symmetry that occur in nature or in the perceived movements of object.
Veronique uses various cone 6 clay bodies, including porcelain and light or dark stoneware. The pieces are fired in an electric kiln one or more times depending on the desired end result and decorative techniques used. Various oxide washes, slips, underglazes and glazes are used alone or in combination to achieve distinct and striking work.
